Having a pair of waders when riding your ATV through deep water or mud is critical to having an awesome day in the trials. I currently own a pair of Hodgman Mackenzie waders and I wanted to tell y’all about them.
What are the best waders for ATV riding? I strongly recommend the Hodgman Mackenzie Chest Waders for riding your ATV through any deep mud or water. I currently have owned a pair for a year and they have not let me down. My Hodgman Chest Waders are lightweight and have plenty of room inside for extra clothes, socks, etc. When I bought them a year ago, I only paid about $40…. Yeah, that’s right.. ONLY $40. Currently, it looks like Size 9 (smallest size) is around $35 and Size 13 (largest size) is around $45. To prevent my feet from getting wet and keeping my legs dry, the value far exceeds the price.
The Hodgman Mackenzie Chest Waders are not the most premium waders on the market but I give them the “Best Wader Award” because they do not leak and are under $50. If you are looking for waders with more quality and can spend some extra money, I recommend Gator Waders which I talk about below.
Hodgman Mackenzie Chest Waders 1 Year Review
After owning these waders for 1 year, I have been up to my handle bars (Snorkeled Yamaha Big Bear 400) in water about 10-15 times and no signs of leakage yet. The boots are true to size, uninsulated and lightweight. Although no inside pockets, there is a draw string to tighten the waders around your chest if needed. The straps seem very durable and are adjustable. Since I live in South Carolina, most of my riding is done at temperatures above 50 degrees which makes these waders perfect. If you mostly ride in very cold temperatures, these are not what you want and you should check out my recommended cold weather waders later in the post.

How to Store your ATV Mudding Waders?
When I get done riding my four wheeler at an ATV park, I will put them in the back of my truck to prevent putting dirt and mud inside my truck. When I get home, I will rinse them off with a water hose and let dry. Once they are dry, I will, then, hang them up on my Rack'Em Racks Boot & Wader Rack inside my garage until I need them for the next ride. If you plan to mount this rack to your drywall, I would recommend purchasing some high quality drywall inserts because the ones that come with the rack are more prone to failure.
Do you need chest waders to go mudding with an ATV?
If you are an experienced rider like myself, then you know the answer to this question. YES! Having a pair of waders will keep you dry and comfortable throughout the entire day of riding. I’ve seen it time and time again where someone gets water in their boot the first mud hole they hit. Guess what? They now have wet feet the rest of the day which makes for a miserable riding experience. So go ahead and purchase some chest waders and you can thank me later. If you are on a budget then go with the Hodgman Mackenzie waders, if not, go with one of the Gator Waders I recommended above.
